Official publisher rules for the manuscript review
This page collects the journal-specific instructions and Taylor & Francis policies relevant to Tanakan Sookgasi's spatial-computing manuscript. It is intended to help the authors and supervisor review the submission against the same official sources.
Journal-specific requirements
Read these before the publisher-wide policies.
- Article length
- IJHCI currently states no manuscript word limit. A word count must still be included.
- Abstract
- An unstructured abstract of exactly 150 words.
- Keywords
- Three to five keywords.
- Initial format
- Format-free submission is allowed, but the manuscript must be consistent and readable.
- Cover letter
- Explain the importance of the work and its fit with IJHCI. Include the author information requested by the journal.
- Data statement
- Include a data availability statement and a persistent repository identifier when data are shared.
- Declarations
- Include funding, competing interests, author contributions, acknowledgments, data availability, and a truthful AI-use statement where applicable.
Research ethics and informed consent
The most important policy area for professor review.
What the publisher expects
For non-interventional survey research, the manuscript must explain when formal ethics approval was not required under the applicable national or institutional rules. Verbal consent must also be explained. Participants should be informed about the purpose of the research, confidentiality, data handling, voluntary participation, and relevant risks.
What the manuscript should state
- Why formal committee review was not required at the time of the study
- Who confirmed the applicable program requirement
- How the study purpose and voluntary nature were explained
- How verbal informed consent was provided
- How operational identifiers were separated from the deidentified analysis data
- That public results and data do not identify individual participants
What the supervisor letter can do
- Confirm the project type and program requirements
- Confirm the supervisor's knowledge of the project procedures
- Document why no approval number exists
- Support the manuscript's factual explanation
The letter should not be described as retrospective ethics approval or an institutional exemption unless the university formally issued one.
Authorship and disclosure
Authorship is based on contribution, not committee membership.
- Author qualification
- Each listed author should have made a substantial scholarly contribution, approved the final manuscript, and accepted responsibility for the work.
- Committee members
- A committee role by itself does not automatically qualify a person for authorship.
- Contributions
- Use the CRediT statement to describe who performed the conceptualization, methodology, software, analysis, writing, supervision, and other work.
- Competing interests
- Declare relevant financial and non-financial interests. Include a statement even when there are none.
- Author records
- Confirm names, affiliations, institutional emails, profile links, ORCIDs, author order, and corresponding-author details.
Research data and prototype videos
These use two related but different publication routes.
Taylor & Francis supports common video formats including MP4 and MOV, as well as ZIP files. Supplementary material should be relevant, legally publishable, and accessible. Video and audio guidance asks authors to consider captions and transcripts.
AI use, figures, and permissions
Transparency and research integrity remain the authors' responsibility.
AI-assisted manuscript preparation
Authors remain responsible for the originality, accuracy, references, and integrity of the complete article. Relevant use of AI tools must be declared according to the current policy. AI tools cannot be authors.
Figures and prototype images
Figures must represent the work accurately. Authors need permission for third-party material and consent where images, video, or audio could identify participants. Alternative text should describe figures that convey information.
Questions for the professor
These decisions should be confirmed before final submission.
- Does the manuscript represent the original master project accurately?
- Does the explanation of why formal ethics review was not required reflect the program requirements applicable at the time?
- Does the description of verbal informed consent and deidentification reflect what occurred?
- Are the two-author list, author order, and contribution statement correct?
- May the deidentified quantitative dataset and verification code be deposited publicly?
- Does the cover letter explain clearly why spatial applications create different design priorities from conventional two-dimensional applications?
